Noble Living, Noble Caring, Noble Dying: Weekend Workshop

With Tsunma Jamyang Donma, RP, CRPO, Andrea Sherman, PhD and Lori Solensten, MS

August 2 - 3, 2024

Join us for our Noble Living, Noble Caring, Noble Dying Annual Retreat, dedicated to giving compassionate care at the bedside, on August 2nd & 3rd. This retreat is offered both in person and virtually on Zoom.

NOBLE LIVING

Learn skills for caring for yourself as we care for others.

NOBLE CARING

Join us in the exploration and development of deep contemplative practice, presence, gentleness, and connection while caring for others.

NOBLE DYING

Learn how we can support the dying and the bereaved so that death has meaning, tenderness, and compassion.

Are you a caregiver, a health professional, or someone with an aging or ailing family member? Samye Hermitage in Cooperstown, New York, is offering ongoing annual training and support to caregivers. Come join us on our beautiful land. Take refuge in the sanctuary of care and compassionate reflection with peers as we explore this healing journey we call life.

This year, we will explore the work of Zen Hospice Founder Frank Ostaseski and his groundbreaking contribution, “The Five Invitations.”

Within The Five Invitations are lessons distilled and gleaned over a lifetime of serving compassionately at the bedside, offering guidance that points to the work as a radical path to transformation.

The Five Invitations:

  • Don’t wait
  • Welcome everything, push away nothing
  • Bring your whole self to the experience
  • Find a place of rest in the middle of things
  • Cultivate “don’t know mind”

These Five Invitations show us how to wake up fully to our lives. They can be understood as best practices for anyone coping with loss or navigating any sort of transition or crisis. They guide us toward appreciating life’s preciousness.

Schedule Details

Notes:

  • Copies of “Radically Happy,” “Awakening Dignity,” and “The Five Invitations” will be available for purchase.
  • This will be a hybrid retreat, allowing for both on-site and online participation.

Financial Support:

This retreat has been priced to cover the many costs that go into organizing such an event, which includes food, labor, supplies, and, of course, time. We strive to price our retreats to cover these costs, while leaving a modest amount of surplus to help us maintain our physical campus year-round.

We are also committed to making our retreat as accessible as possible, so for those who are in need of financial assistance for either the online or onsite retreat, please send a message to [email protected] for details on how we can help.
